Mozilla’s Hidden Preferences (December 11, 2002)

I’ve been meaning to post this one for a long time: If you use Mozilla (or a Moz-based browser like Netscape, Chimera, K-Meleon, etc.), you know how much control it gives you over the way it works. For most things, you can set them however you like in the Preferences control panel. There are some […]

Mozilla 1.2.1 Out (December 3, 2002)

Looks like the folks at the Mozilla Project really got on the stick after the botched release of Mozilla 1.2 — they’ve just rolled out Mozilla 1.2.1, which incorporates a fix for the DHTML bug that plagued 1.2. Let’s see… 1.2 released on Wednesday, bug disclosed and download pulled on Friday, bug fixed and new […]

Mozilla 1.2 Out (November 27, 2002)

Hey kids, looks like the Mozilla Project has just released the latest and greatest version of their browser, Mozilla 1.2. This edition has been in beta stage for a long time, but now that it’s finished there’s a host of goodies ready for you to snag: Type Ahead Find (want to find a word in […]

XUL Help? (November 25, 2002)

If anybody out there has experience using the Mozilla front-end language, XUL, and its support for localization, I’d love to hear from you — I’ve been working through O’Reilly’s Creating Applications With Mozilla book, and it seems to be riddled with errors in the sample code provided. I can figure out everything except how to […]

K-Meleon is Back (November 12, 2002)

This is good news — after a long dormancy, the K-Meleon project is finally back up and running. K-Meleon takes the powerful Gecko rendering engine used in Mozilla and wraps it in a real, native Windows interface, instead of using Mozilla’s slower interpreted interface language. The result is a small, fast, snappy browser that you […]

Finally!!! (October 10, 2002)

According to the latest mozilla.org status update, support for synchronizing the Mozilla address book with PalmPilots and other PalmOS devices has just been checked into the code base for the upcoming Mozilla 1.2 release. Let me just take one moment to say… WOO-HOO!!! 🙂 This is great news. This has been one of the big […]

Mozilla Slims Down (September 24, 2002)

If you’re a Windows user who’s been intrigued by Mozilla’s power and standards-compliance, but you’ve been turned off by its “bloat” (providing a browser, mail client, newsreader, HTML authoring program, etc. in one app), now you’ve finally got an alternative! Phoenix 0.1 has just been released. Phoenix strips out all the ancillary functionality to provide […]

Mozilla 1.1 Out (August 27, 2002)

The world’s best browser just got better — Mozilla 1.1 was released to the public this morning. Improvements over the already-terrific 1.0 revision include better standards compliance, improved performance and stability, new window icons, a greatly improved JavaScript Debugger, and much more. Check it out!

Thumbs Up For Mozilla 1.0 (June 18, 2002)

So the Mozilla Organization, the open-source project launched by Netscape in 1998 when they released the source code of their Web browser, has after four years of development (!) finally managed to release version 1.0 of their new-from-the-ground-up browser. The good news? It ROCKS!
